The personal site of Ed Caspersen. This site contains various information pertaining to personal and professional interests of mine. Additionally I will be covering the production progress of Fracture as we embark on this amazing (and frustrating) journey which is the evolution and development of this incredible plug-in.

Almost There!!!

I have finally duplicated the basic Array functionality from 3ds Max within Maya. The following tasks are still left:

  • Scatter
  • Plane Constraints (Scatter)
  • Geometry and Grouping
  • Reset Parameters

Recruiting Fracture Beta Testers

For those interested in beta-testing a pre-alpha Maya destruction plugin may contact me or Kevin (Mannens) to apply.

Array Script Progress

After a few months of procrastination I am back to work on the Array script. Making some good progress on the interactive transformation updates. Once interactive dimensional updates are working I will probably be posting the first Alpha release. Additionally I am in the planning stages of building a version of this script for Blender. Because of the drastically different UI elements of Blender this version of the Array script will be visually different in the layout of controls and options. However the goal remains to provide the same overall functionality as the original Maya script.

Pleasantly surprised by the latest community survey @ CGenie

Well it is obvious that a Blender user would be satisfied with the final results. I think the results for Maya and 3ds Max where are even more of a surprise. The discontent that users have been voicing over the past few years for both was known, I just didn't realize it was that high. If you haven't read this I won't try and interpret it for you, I suggest you go over read it yourself and make up your own mind.

CG Community Survey: Upgrades 09

Before 2008 ends...

I really need to make a post so nobody thinks I died. Been really really busy with school for a few weeks, had some drama get the right software for the job. Everything looks good now tho and I should be all caught up. I also have been burying myself in Blender related work as well, which is a good thing. Hopefully some new contents very soon!

Windows to Fedora - guide/journal

On my journey into Fedora I have encountered a few speed bumps along the way. The issues I had, and solved, seem to be quite common so I decided to keep a journal of sorts that can be used as a guide for new Fedora users. The link can be found to the left in the Site Navigation. I plan to share my finds with tips and links so others may have an easier time getting into Fedora.

Making the switch

Not only have I been making the transition from Maya to Blender, but switch my main OS of choice from XP to Fedora. I think it is safe to say I am about 65% done with the transition process. Hopefully when all is said and done the first workshop can be held.

Blender Workshop - Michigan Chapter

So I am thinking about possible getting one started. Going to take some work and organization, I also have to complete the transition of my personal work over to Blender. There is a board of Blender certified trainers (BFCT) but I don't think I would require a certification to hold some sort of workshop or conference. Research, research, research...

The cover, and my reaction

This morning I wake up to an email from Kevin. Attached to this email is a preview of the cover of the book we worked on together. I never knew what to expect, but I have to admit that I was surprised and absolutely stoked. It is a strange feeling when your first book gets ready to come out, anticipation and excitement all wrapped up in one.

Blender 2.47 release

If there is one thing I love about Blender that strictly dominates all other 3D packages is the attention given to bugs. I have used some programs that have had gone through several version releases carrying the same bugs from release to release. It is good to see that the team at the Blender Foundation knows when to set aside new features and address bugs before anything else.
